The Resource and Environment program aims to fill the great demand for high-level environmental engineering professionals in a number of areas, such as the management of industrial waste and watershed, decentralized sewage treatment technology, water eutrophication control technology, water ecological restoration technology, soil restoration technology, and technology to ensure clean drinking water. This program entails the following research areas.
Water Pollution Control and Management
The focus of the Water Pollution Control and Management program is mainly on the research and development of rural and urban wastewater treatment technology, technology to ensure safe drinking water in urban areas, development and promotion of industrial wastewater treatment equipment, and water eutrophication mechanism and control technology.
Environmental Processes and Simulation
This Environmental Processes and Simulation program focuses on the study of various problems in the water environment caused by the influence of the environment and human society on the spatial and temporal distribution, production, circulation, and other dynamic behaviours of the water biomass. Such studies will provide a scientific basis for (i) the prevention and control of eutrophication in water bodies, (ii) the mechanism of algal blooms, and (iii) the technical support for the sustainable development and use of the water environmental ecosystems and their risk management.
Ecological Restoration Technique
This program focuses on ecological restoration techniques such as those based on plants and microorganisms used mainly to restore polluted rivers, substrates, and soils to build healthy ecosystems and strengthen the ecological purification capacity of the natural environment.
Environmental Management and Information Technology
This program mainly focuses on research based on remote sensing, Geographic Information System (GIS), big (cloud) data, and other technologies for application in regional environmental data acquisition and management and environmental modeling. It also addresses environmental modeling related to the distribution, transport, and transformation of pollutants in the atmosphere, water, and soil and their interfaces, as well as technologies for the storage, management, and application of environmental data.
Conservation and Utilization of Biological Resources
This program explores new theories and methods for the effective conservation of important biological resources in Zhejiang Province and explores new ways and processes for the exploitation of these resources.
New Environmental Materials and Application Technologies
This program covers technology research and development, practice, and promotion of clean production technology in the tanning industry. It also explores green technologies for the synthesis of chemicals, new technologies for microwave-assisted depolymerization of waste plastics, and environmentally functional materials and catalysts.
